Is America flirting with fascism, or are the idiots taking over?

Jesus effectively told us ‘we will know the truth and the truth will set us free‘, but Republicans like Ron DeSantis and Glen Youngkin don’t want instruction in history based on truth. Why not? The Republican governors say that truthful history will hurt young white people’s feelings, but they say nothing about the feelings of African-American children. Truth and history are not about feelings; they help us to be strong and intelligent people. The same Republicans worried about feelings also attack people they call “Woke”, but they do not explain what they mean by this. Do they want American citizens to be “Sleep”, and if so why? Fascist do whatever they can to achieve power. The classic move of fascists is to pit people against each other while lying and claiming to be victims; their intent is to victimize others. The Republican leaders pushing fascism claim to be for freedom, but the only freedom they are concerned with is their own to abuse, harass, and threaten the other. Americans must be ready to choose in upcoming elections between dignity and respect for all, or power for some at the expense of others. The fascist Putin has been quoted as saying that he will “do anything for his friends and for his enemies the law.” Fascist in America will sell a similar message of law and order in the streets, but the crime wave will be in the halls of power. Research and act to preserve our republic.

The Hits Keep Coming

Anyone who is interested in the truth about the Trump administration can find it; those who want lies can find plenty of those too. America’s enemies must be drinking champagne and doing back flips as they watch our continued division over an ignorant clown named Trump. Some Americans hold up the corrupt clown as some sort of hero while the world sees a conman taking advantage of our many fools fueled by ignorance, racism, and ego-centrism. The January 6th commission has revealed the attempted coup that was assisted by many Republicans during and after the fact. The Trump Attorney General and his daughter both said they believed he had lost the election as did most of his professional campaign staff; will this make any difference to Republicans who want to believe the lie? Probably not. Whether a heavily armed America will wind up in a civil war is anyone’s guess. The hardest part of our current events is how quickly we have turned on each other at the behest of an obvious evil clown named Trump. The January 6th committee is just getting started; it is already too much information about an attack on our country that should have been dealt with in a bipartisan fashion already. We are a weak democracy, and it could get worse.

Is there more mental illness in America?

There is a lot of evidence to suggest that the American population has more mental illness than other countries around the world. We are known for having a high usage of illicit drugs with more people locked up than anywhere else in the world. American culture has a built-in deceptive current of racism that caused the Association of Black Psychologists to state that if you are Black and not paranoid; there is something wrong with you. Politicians and media networks regularly declare that our greatest enemies are our fellow countrymen, and Trump stated that he trusted the Russian intelligence agencies more than American ones while he was president (receiving a lot of support after saying this). Americans are so distrustful of each other that we have more firearms than people in our country. It is valid to assume that a nation with so much conflict has more people suffering mental distress and illness. America has had a lot of success and much to be proud of; but selfishness and out of control egos make truth illusive. We need a new social contract that strengthens values like belief in a common good, individual work ethic, accountability, and integrity. Research and vote to keep liars and sociopaths out of power in our government, and to preserve our republic.

Crunch time for democracy in America

We are entering a critical period in the story of America. We cannot undo what has already been done to bring us to this point, but we can act to avoid doom for our republic. Call, email, text, or write to your representatives to vote for the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Fighting to make voting easier for American citizens is the best way to stop delusional authoritarians from destroying the country. When dark money is taken out of our elections and gerrymandered districts no longer allow politicians to select their voters; we will be stronger. Access to the truth, voter education and high citizen participation are critical for a strong democracy; we are trending in the wrong direction. Today’s Republican Party lies so often because they have propaganda networks that will echo what they say without challenge. Talking points that attack the truth and science are running rampant in our country. Before it is too late we must all remember the famous words of Senator Hiram Johnson; “The first casualty of war is the truth.” Who and what will be next in a struggle that January 6, 2021 only made clear?

Can America handle the truth?

America has not been dealing with the truth for years. Seeing a buffoonish, hateful conman like Trump as a leader was a manifestation of internal division, broken media, and power lusting politicians. The Republican Party practices the big lie with relish. Their mantra is to lie and keep lying without apology. Weak media combined with Americans not wanting to believe anything that doesn’t match pre-conceived notions foretell a devastating future. Lying has paid off so far for Republicans; if they ride it to victory in 2022 the path forward will reveal an America in steep decline. The January 6 commission will hopefully get the truth out about an attempted coup assisted by numerous Republicans in leadership positions. Hopefully the truth will cause Americans to exact a price for threatening the power of the people. The odds are reportedly favoring the Republicans right now despite clear evidence of ongoing corruption and lies. Americans who support Republicans want to believe immigrants, the truth, science, and minorities are a threat, America’s choice in 2022 and 24 will have monstrous consequences.

Increase the pressure

Democrats in the congress and executive branch need to increase the urgency of getting the facts behind the attempted overthrow of the 2020 election. Criminals who openly defy congress (some after receiving pardons from Trump) should not be allowed to continue plotting with, and inspiring others to overthrow our republic. People like Steve Bannon should be compelled to tell the truth and accept accountability for their attack on the will of American citizens. When we vote for our leaders we convey the authority and power of our nation on them; not to convicts, conmen, and thugs who think they can impose their will through threats. Research, act, and vote to protect democracy and decency. Vote and act against Republicans until they support democracy.

Infrastructure 1.0

The US Senate passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill, but the House of Representatives will not pass it until the For the People Act is presented for their vote as well. I think that Speaker Pelosi is right to take this stand because the bulk of climate crisis legislation is in the second bill. Climate Crisis is receiving a lot of attention because we are running out of time to preserve a future for human civilization as we know it. The For the People Act addresses social and scientific crisis that threaten to destroy our society. It is not socialism for our government to focus resources and energy to address existential threats. Private enterprise will be the dominate vehicle for meeting the critical challenges that we face, but government must represent people’s hope for a better society and future.

Manchin and Sinema

Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema are openly asking us to believe that they cannot recognize that America is in crisis. They feel the filibuster as it now exists is more important than the votes of citizens. The Republican threat to voting rights and vote counting is a crisis for our system of government. As politicians and “leaders” if Manchin and Sinema cannot recognize a system in crisis there is a problem. The problem is the electorate that allows these two senators [and any others that agree with them] to be considered representatives of their will. Call your representatives and let them know that you support HR-1 and HR-4 as non-negotiable bills to be passed into law. If citizens are not electing our representatives we are no longer a republic. Research and act to protect your future and that of your posterity.

The time for hearings and trials is here

Reports emerged yesterday that the Trump Justice Department pursued perceived enemies in media and the Democratic Party. Survey data shows that people around the world lost confidence in the United States and it’s leadership to do the right thing. Trump yesterday (June 10) attacked President Biden while supporting Putin. Evidence of corruption and criminality on top of an effort to overthrow the 2020 election is more than enough for a strong effort to discover the truth and hold persons in responsible positions accountable. I hope trials and public investigations begin soon, so that citizens in our country, and those who care about democracy around the world see justice in action. Contact your representatives and let them know that they need to act to defend our republic.

Can they handle the truth?

Over 30 Republicans voted for a commission to study what happened on January 6, 2021 at the US Capitol. More than 140 voted against examining what happened. There is hope for America as long as we value the truth. Republicans have demonstrated so far that they fear the truth surrounding the insurrection at the Capitol. The country hangs in the balance as we wait to see if evil will triumph and the party of the big lie regains power in 2022. There will be many important events happening in the near future. Be prepared and act to strengthen truth,justice, and our republic.
