The news that the governor of Michigan was the target of a plot to kidnap and murder her is appalling. I wrote a thriller (Centurion Crew available at Amazon) based on a fictional president using racists militias to overthrow the republic. When I wrote the book I was thinking of worst case scenarios, but the headlines keep walking closer to my plot. It is uncomfortable to live in times when unstable people actively seek power while spouting evil thoughts and ideas. So far we have had elements of the government uphold their allegiance to the Constitution. I pray that reality does not mirror fiction. Tom Clancy said “The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense.”. Let’s vote and work to make sure the good guys win, and America helps to save the world from Climate Change and evil.

Trump showed himself to be a true threat to America at Tuesday nights debate. He lies, creates threats to minority citizens and every decent person, blocks the truth, and generally attacks our republic. It seems like desperation from Trump, but he has always been high energy as he sold his lies and created an alternate reality. My question remains the same; “Who supports this guy and what do you think you will get?”. Every major figure who is respectable has announced warnings that our future as a republic is at stake in the coming election. Racists and fascists rally to Trump because they recognize he is one of them. Trump continues to attack our process of selecting leaders. He is trying to block what he believes is the will of the people; a Biden presidency. Trump’s behavior lines up with an evil fictional president in my book Centurion Crew (available at Amazon). The term Trump tax cut has taken on new meaning after the New York Times report on his tax records. Trump has not changed in the time he has been president and you have to wonder what is going on in the minds of his supporters. It has to be hard to support an amoral man who thinks you are stupid for believing in him. Trump’s records reveal the extreme nature of his white privilege and complete lack of character. He gave himself a tax cut every year and let the country increase its debt burden and pull the money from hardworking honest citizens. Every voter has to ask themselves is this who you want as your president at a time of heightening crisis? Research and vote in 2020!
“Begin Again” by Eddie Glaude Jr. is an excellent reflection of today’s issues surrounding race and equity, with a review of the life and times of James Baldwin. I found this book provocative because it revealed clearly that confronting white supremacy and systemic racism are not new. Black Americans have been challenging the evil known as racism on multiple levels for many years. The book examines not only the damage to Black people perpetrated by racism, but the debasement of Whites as well. Even the establishment of the White identity in the Americas is discussed as a pillar of racism. I would advise anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the modern world to read this book. There is a lot of reporting that millennial voters are not motivated about the upcoming elections. I hope the reporting is incorrect because no group will be impacted more than younger citizens. The continuation of our republic, civil rights, economic growth, climate policy, healthcare policy, and infrastructure development are all on the ballot. If America makes the wrong choice in 2020 there will be a series of unfortunate events accelerating the demise of decent culture and civilization. If you know a millennial or are one; make sure you share the importance of voting with someone who is struggling with priorities and choices. The choice this year is clear and stark. Vote in 2020 like your life depended on it; it does!
If you can’t decide on who to vote for in this election try thinking about your priorities and hopes for the future. Do you want young people and future generations to know that lying is a path to success? If you are fine with lying your way to victory then vote for Trump. Do you care if clear crimes and corruption go without accountability; then vote for Trump. If you do not care whether current and future issues are adequately addressed; then vote for Trump. If you are fine with bullying, xenophobia, ignorance, racism, sexism, and fear-mongering; then vote for Trump. If you believe that the climate crisis is a hoax and unworthy of serious attention; vote for Trump. If you believe the United States Constitution matters and that we need a president who has a clue about the importance of the office; then vote for Biden. We will get the government and the reality that we deserve. Please research, register, and vote as soon as you can in 2020.
Donald Trump is suspected by many people with expertise in government and espionage of being an agent for Russia or it’s oligarchs. The experts believe that there is a financial trail that tells the story of who Trump’s real bosses are. Many point to Helsinki and Trump bowing down to Vladimir Putin while rejecting America’s intelligence agencies. Trump still has not released his tax records as he promised he would years ago. We have a new problem today with Trump working to pit Americans against one another using pre-existing racial divides in our society. The Russians used racial divides to help Trump in the 2016 election and are doing so again in 2020. As Americans consider their vote in 2020 here are some questions we should ask ourselves: 1. Why does Trump attack Americans and suck up to Putin? 2. Why doesn’t he release his taxes? 3. Why doesn’t he support our troops when Russians place bounties on their heads in Afghanistan? There are many other questions to ask about Trump and his motivations. See if you can think of three more that I have not mentioned. Research the issues and plan your vote in 2020!
Brian Stelter in his new book “Hoax” says that Fox personalities like Sean Hannity have stated that Trump is crazy, but don’t share this with their viewers. The current president has revealed the cowardice and lack of patriotism in the Republican Senate, House of Representatives, party apparatus, and media. Either for love of power or fear of a tweet many persons in positions of leadership and public trust deserve neither. The question for us is when does this end and what happens to the people who help perpetrate a lie to the American people? Why do so many conservatives and Republicans lack a moral compass? I believe that the underlying racism of the Republican Party since the Southern strategy of the 1960s has left these people with little but hatred or self-interest. Lying and deception have become so ingrained that decency is hard to find among Republicans in the age of Trump. It is stunning. America may be swallowed by the filth we find ourselves stuck in, but we will fight in the upcoming election. Plan your vote and know your options by texting “vote” to 30330.
Many Americans are still at work putting themselves and their families at risk for COVID-19. We call them names like essential workers, but they are just people who want to do their part and make a living, The president and others are pushing for things to quickly get back to normal with as many businesses as possible open. The only problem with the complete re-opening of the economy (that everyone wants) is we have no plan to combat COVID-19 being implemented. American leadership has failed on a massive scale. We live in an America with many heroes but Republican political leaders display cowardice while pushing for others to pay the price. Teachers, store clerks, bus drivers, and others should not have everything placed at risk while being treated like canon fodder by Trump and McConnell with no health insurance. Our country is facing pandemics of privilege, greed, corruption, racism, and COVID-19. Most of these pandemics have been with us for awhile and periodically erupt threatening to consume us. Our sense of decency and fairness should push us to value and protect our fellow citizens. Nature is pushing us to adapt to challenges such as climate change and COVID-19. We must begin to build a better America before time runs out.
John Lewis was great a American who built a reputation of standing up for liberty and justice everyone. We say liberty and justice for all in our pledge of allegiance regularly, but we still struggle to achieve that lofty goal. Some Americans believe in a just society while clearly others are not interested in equal rights, or justice. An example is the upcoming election where Republicans do not want mail-in ballots because more people might vote. John Lewis had faith in people; if they knew the truth they would move toward liberty and justice for all. Right wing media regularly distorts the truth to support policies that are unfair and will lead to failures like the current pandemic. America has been a great country because we made decisions based on truth while pursuing the growth of human potential. Over time more citizens have become able to pursue happiness but now some want to return to a great time in the past. The United States is not going back to the past without destroying itself. We need more believers in peace and justice like John Lewis to continue our movement toward our potential, as we leave the filth of fascism behind.
