Healthcare is part of national defense

The US does not have a healthcare system that is available to every citizen. The US has a healthcare marketplace that creates huge gaps of underserved people as the COVID19 pandemic has shown. We still don’t know how the pandemic developed. Was it man-made, or a typical animal to human transference? Scientist are still working to discover the origins of the pandemic and to stay ahead of variants. The United States has emerged as a weak player in handling infectious disease because of our lack of a system with equal access and protection for all citizens. An enemy could attack the US with a virus that morphs while remaining virulent. That enemy could watch the wealthy get protected through social distancing, work from home, and access to quality healthcare. The poor would be hit hard early and spread the disease which could then morph to overcome the advantages of the wealthy. Our economy and military would be rapidly overwhelmed because we have not systematically monitored and responded to threats like COVID19. America must build a first rate healthcare system that includes public health, and universal access, because the survival of the nation depends on it.

Lies are killing us

Texas GOP leadership of Texas has been in effect for decades and has delivered an infrastructure that has failed to serve it’s citizens. The same leaders urged citizens to not wear masks. The situation is bad enough when citizens face freezing to death in their homes, or being poisoned by toxic water. But Texas politicians have started to spin lies about the Green New Deal, windmills, and how citizens should expect nothing from their government. Texas has been warned numerous times in the past about winterizing it’s energy infrastructure and done nothing. Republican behavior in Texas and across the country is appalling because they continuously get away with failure due to tribalism reinforced by lies. The invasion of Iraq, COVID19, the Capitol insurrection, and more are the result of people not fearing accountability. If Republican wholesale lying does not stop, the destruction will increase. America needs to hold Republicans accountable, to do it we must all stay vigilant, stand up for the right to vote, and the truth.

Feeling Hopeful

President Joe Biden is showing Americans what leadership looks like. He is talking and acting like a person of character and conviction about COVID19, climate change, racism, infrastructure, and making work pay. President Biden cannot do everything he wants without the help of Congress, but by using executive orders he is not sitting around waiting for them to act. The Biden/Harris administration is sending the signal that citizens matter by exhibiting transparency and answering the questions of the press. Our government is not supposed to solve all of our problems, but it is supposed to set the stage for the success of our efforts. With numerous challenges for America we now have adults in charge who know that leadership in government matters for the future and success of hard working citizens. When Biden talks he is optimistic and focused on our issues; not talking about himself and lying about bizarre issues like inauguration crowd size. I do not believe everything will be perfect now, but we have good reason for hope. Let’s keep paying attention and sorting out truth from fiction because the ultimate decision makers are us.

Moving forward

The Democratic controlled House of Representatives and Senate is where the action is for rebuilding the base of the republic. Joe Biden has told us what he wants to do, but he needs congress to make it a reality. Trump has been impeached but now should be convicted and banned from ever holding office again; unless we want to see more like him in the future. The COVID19 pandemic threatens to morph into a new threat with variants overtaking vaccines if we do not act quickly to finance the fight against it. Assistance for people financially damaged by the pandemic and the rest of the economy is needed sooner to prevent more damage later. Civil rights for all Americans to be treated with dignity is urgent as our society battles extremism and hate. Climate change has it’s own timer and does not care if we respond or not, but if we care for future generations the time is now. Democrats have been given control and now must show supporters that they really care about the issues important to voters. I am hopeful that we will see boldness from congress and the Biden administration. Stay focused and be ready to provide feedback and support to your representatives and the administration.

America in chaos leading to?

We have a large question hanging over our country and the answer will depend on the wisdom of the masses. Millions of voters in Georgia will decide on whether two Senators who have used their offices to corruptly enrich themselves will return to do it again. The Georgia vote will signal what Americans really care about, and if there is any moral failing that is too low for a Republican in a red state. Republicans seem to care about selfishness, greed, and power while not building a better country for working people. The COVID pandemic has been badly mishandled leading to lives cut short and economic distress across the country, but the current president and Republican politicians say nothing. Mitch McConnell and his friends say that we must now be concerned with the national debt after giving a large tax cut to the wealthy; while millions stare at disease with no healthcare, possible homelessness, and the mental duress that comes with life on the edge. The eighty plus million people who voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris wait to see if Donald Trump and his Republican political minions will destroy the constitution, while law enforcement is on the lookout for white supremacist terrorists who want to support the overthrow of our republic. I am hopeful that the republic will survive the current chaos, but democracy cannot last long if those who assault it are not held accountable. We are currently an unstable country dealing with multiple threats that have not all been mentioned in this post. Contact your representatives and let them know that you expect them to honor their oath of office and defend the constitution.

Burning down the house?

Headlines for the last few days show a trend of increasing chaos by the current president. As Trump vetoes the bill to help Americans damaged by the pandemic; we have to realize he had months to make his desires known if he had any. Trump has not seemed even slightly interested in the well-being of the American citizenry. We may be entering a time where those who supported Trump while pretending not to notice his criminality will have to defend the Constitution. History will not be kind to the Republicans in congress if it is written by honest people. Republicans repeatedly denied accountability for a person who appears determined to do as much damage as he can to America. Trump has; pardoned men who murdered 14 people including children in Iraq, pardoned persons who likely obstructed investigations of the president, and repeatedly demolishing the appearance of a just pardon process. We will likely see more outrages coming until January 20. The question for America is who will protect the house from being burned down, and make sure that this does not happen again? Criminality is widespread in our politics and society today, if we do not control it; it will control us.

Change and hope in the air

We are living through dark times and of that there is no doubt. The assault on our democracy is fueled by a portion of our fellow citizens, but the majority of the voters spoke clearly that they wanted a change and it appears we will get it. Front line health workers were the first to receive the vaccine in our country at the same time that we are smashing new records for infection rate. Lies have gotten us to a point where America’s strengths were turned against it and chaos became a daily feature of life. We have observed that IT CAN HAPPEN HERE. Going forward I am hopeful that more Americans will stay involved because they realize that there is not someone else who will take care of things. We have got to make sure that the wisdom of the crowd is able to come forth by protecting and expanding the right to vote, and the ease of voting. Americans cannot allow a super citizenship to emerge and create an oligarchy or dictatorship. I hope this is the last time we come so close to losing our republic for another hundred years, but I know that each election brings the possibility of new peril. Research and vote in every election!

Toxic Trumpism

The Republican leadership have accepted the outcomes of their races, but are not openly asking the current president to accept his. In fact republicans encourage the undermining of our elections if you believe gather Georgia Secretary of State (a republican), who says Lindsey Graham asked if he could throw out some Biden votes. When it comes to Trump reality is warped and any failure, corruption, criminality, or bad news is unacceptable and not his fault. The giant Trump baby balloon should be flying non-stop near the Capitol until the election is conceded by the current occupant of the White House. No one knows whether the undermining of the elections is the end of our republic, or a crippling blow that could destabilize it. The longer the Republicans fight the presidential results; the more people will feel emboldened to defy laws passed by elected representatives leading to chaos. If Trump was robbed in a rigged election, who else was? We are already dealing with virus, climate change, and vaccine deniers creating societal jeopardy. Time is running out on many levels for our modern society. The divides in our country (and other developed nations) threaten the collapse of our republic. Every responsible thinking person needs to make sure that they are not on the sidelines during this time of crisis. Volunteer, communicate, donate, or march to protect our republic and the progress we deserve toward a brighter future.

Moving forward

People my age are hearing the great Ray Charles singing Georgia On My Mind, the The Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP), or Viva Las Vegas as the returns come in bringing a hoped for end to the Trump presidency. Many people believe that we will start to deal with COVID19, climate change, healthcare, and race relations in rational fashion. Trump made it a point to make everything about himself and stir chaos while seeming to get away with everything he could as we were distracted. Two months are left on the current administration. Every citizen must keep eyes peeled for corruption, criminality, and debasement of the republic as the Trump regime packs up to leave. God willing the end is near for this administration, but the damage they can do is not over. Make sure that you retain your power and research to vote in every election! Thank you to the voters who recognized the malignant threat of Trump mania and participated in this election! Hope followed by actions can move mountains!

So much left to do

After participating in the elections, very voter should feel good about their concern for their world, country, and community. Voting is a very important tool in creating the world we would like to see, but it is not the only tool that we have. As citizens and people who care we should advocate for our values and hopes for a better future. We can use our influence with friends and family, we can contribute our time to causes and groups, and we can give resources to further the policies or movements we want to succeed. There was not a wave in any direction in this election, and there is a lot of work to do on justice, climate change, and healthcare to name a few. COVID-19 is raging in our country and we must continue to protect ourselves and others. If Joe Biden wins the presidency he will need a lot of help to get anything done. Consider getting the Five Calls app to contact your legislators and advocate for bills you want enacted into law. Every citizen who cares should vow to find ways to stay informed and involved in building a better future while continuing to protect our republic. Develop a plan to support your values while staying safe and focused.
