I am thankful that I live in a country where people believe in the power of the truth, and that justice applies to everyone. I realize that many people are purchased everyday to keep secrets, and make justice lean toward the wealthy and powerful. Nevertheless I am a believer in my fellow citizens, and the righteousness of our constitution and founding ideas. The whistleblowers are risking everything to bring the truth to the American people, and the United States Congress. It may take awhile but eventually Americans do the right thing to paraphrase Winston Churchill. We have to remember that a sizable percentage of Americans thought we should ally with Hitler in World War II. There is always a portion of American society that hold contrary views to the majority. The key people are those who stand up in the face of evil and alert the rest of us to come to the defense of the republic. Remember what is happening now, and vote in every election!

As the facts pile up about the current administration’s attack on the constitution and the rule of law; will there need to be multiple impeachment’s? The Secretary of State has been implicated as a co-conspirator who participated in using tax payer resources for the president’s 2020 political campaign. The Attorney General is implicated in efforts to get dirt on potential opponents, and clear Russia by investigating US intelligence agencies. The Vice-President is reported to have delivered messages to pressure the President of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden’s son, and some right-wing conspiracy theories. The gist of all of the administration’s behavior is damaging to the US republic, and supportive of Putin’s Russia. We must get to the bottom of everything that took place to threaten the republic in this administration; will it require more than one impeachment?
The Attorney General of the United States even being suspected of involvement in behavior that undermines the constitution is shocking and frightening. The current president has put the United States into a tailspin that has citizens learning to distrust every institution that holds the country together. He tells us to not trust the media, our intelligence agencies, former administrations to name a few. He tells lies so much that intelligent people assume if he is speaking he is lying. I am hopeful that more and more Americans recognize that the problem centers around one man, and not all of our institutions. There is a fix for the massive symptom of a societal problem in the White House; impeachment first, and new laws to strengthen our republic later.
Reports today say that Donald Trump told the Russians in 2017 that he was not concerned about their interference in the 2016 elections. Let that soak in for a moment. The President of the USA tells a foreign country that he is not concerned about their interference in getting him elected. Is it okay if China, India, or Brazil want to do the same? Can everyone with funds or capabilities who cares interfere in American elections? The United States will not last long as a country if we do not defend our republic and it’s institutions. It is not news to anyone who has been paying attention, but Donald Trump is unfit to be president of the United States.
We are living through a period of tumult and scandal that is amongst the worst in American history. The current president has been caught using tax payer funds to bribe the Ukrainian president to help with his re-election by investigating the Biden family. The president has a lot of valid reasons to be impeached, but trying to use foreign support in two consecutive elections (2016 & 2020) is too much for any citizen to tolerate. I am glad that the House of Representatives is doing what they were elected to do; provide a check on a lawless president and the Republicans who refuse to stand up for the republic.
The current president is making it very difficult for Democrats to avoid impeachment. We have reached the point where a president is trying to get a foreign government to help him with an election which undermines our republic. The more information that comes in; the worse the President’s Ukrainian bribery phone call looks. We have not seen the taxes of the President and many assume it is because they would show he owes money to Russian oligarchs. Obstruction of justice and elections violations from 2016 are already assumed to be awaiting the President once he leaves office. Numerous crimes not yet in headlines are assumed to have been committed by the President or members of his family and cabinet. Will equal justice under law continue to include the person who is president? I am hopeful that the search for the truth will formally begin soon with Impeachment proceedings.
In a time when there seems to be so much lawlessness and corruption in our current administration it is good to think of the positive in our country; like the great police and law enforcement who protect us every day. I remember the police officers in Dayton. Ohio who within seconds charged straight towards the gunfire that others rightfully fled. The officers used their skill, courage, and professionalism to stop a killer from taking more lives. In America this is the expectation we have grown used to. Maybe other parts of our government bring out the worst in us, but our law enforcement provide a reason to cheer.
Today bought more news of misuse of taxpayer funds by multiple persons working for the executive branch of our government, and a whistleblower complaint about the president making promises to a foreign leader. There are a lot of details that remain to be uncovered, but the pattern that we see daily is that our government cannot be trusted to have the best interests of American citizens at heart. A story was also released today from the Huffington Post that UFO photos released should have never been released. These are many different issues ranging from the current presidents resorts and hotels, to a FEMA contract for over a billion dollars in Puerto Rican Hurricane rebuilding funds, to UFO pictures for what passes as comic relief. Our current government reality is more like that in a third world dictatorship than a great republic. Elections matter – please vote in 2020.
A new poll shows that a large majority of Americans believe that humans contribute to climate change and can slow it. That is good news for many of us who are alarmed by our lack of leadership on the climate crisis. Our country has taken it’s time, but I believe that the United States is uniquely able to lead, and create conditions that will lead to a planet that is more conducive to human civilization. We live in interesting times that will demand our attention and creativity to prevent catastrophe. Hope is what we need to create energy and solutions and the 2020 election will be critical to supplying new leadership that can bring it. I think and I hope we are on the path to confronting the climate crisis as a fully engaged society with powerful markets, and structures to apply to the fight.
We live in strange times where climate scientists and forecasters are under threat of being fired for disagreeing with a President who made a mistake. Other scientist who work on climate related agriculture issues are being forced to move from Washington DC to Kansas City within a three month time frame. In an audiobook by Michael Lewis called “The Coming Storm” tells the stories of government scientist and their research being monetized by outside companies while they are told to remain silent. American tax dollars pay for access to the truth of science to protect lives and livelihoods, but not everyone wants to see the jewel that is our civil service science and research succeed. Some want tax funded research dismantled, or muzzled to hide the truth so that a few can make money, or seem like they know what they are talking about. Every American should be made aware of what our government does well, and not just problems.
