Happy New Year! (look forward after reviewing)

I wish everyone a happy new year of growth, adventure, and fun. As you think about what is to come remember to review and appreciate what went well this year, and build on it. I recently read that our brains think about 95% of the same things day after day – only 5% of our thoughts are new. Make it a point to build new experiences, thoughts, and ideas. Despite all of the bad things that happened there was a lot of good done in 2018. Let us all work together to make 2019 a better year for anyone that we can help, and for our planets ability to support all of humanity!

Consistency versus Chaos

Consistency comes from strong minds gathering facts, making choices and the discipline to follow up. Consistent leaders can work with others to plan a course of action and explain what they are doing to those who don’t understand. You can follow what consistent leaders do and easily understand what thinking underlies their decisions. Chaotic leaders don’t make sense and fail to communicate a vision that makes sense or is moored in truth or logic; typically because they are hiding important facts or are mentally unstable. As citizens we must demand consistency from our leaders, or watch our work (and the work of our ancestors) in this enterprise called the United States of America be destroyed.

Extreme Ownership is a valuable read on leadership and life

I recently completed the audiobook version of Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. The book is excellent and very helpful in a variety of ways. I was a believer in the idea that you cannot fix a problem if you don’t own it before I listened to the book. Listening to this book and it’s concise lessons and strategies pushes the listener to take responsibility and do more in life. This is a great book by warriors who know what they are talking about.

Enlightenment Now is a great book

Steven-Pinker-Enlightenment-Cover-CropI have been reading the book Enlightenment Now by Steven Pinker. I recommend this book for everyone who wants to know more about current events, and the condition of the world. We are bombarded by the current state of chaos in our government, but the world does not stop because we are dysfunctional. Read or listen to this book for in-depth information and perspective on important trends and events in our country and the world.

Shoes are dropping

Skeletons coming out of the closet; shoes dropping; chickens coming home to roost. There comes a time when the facts come together and the party comes to an end for criminals, con-men, and liars. Everyone looks forward to these days when the truth shines bright and justice is done. Let’s strive to live life sticking with the truth, and treating others with respect – so that no one is waiting for chickens to come home on us.

Real leaders stick to the truth

How do you know a real leader from a pretender? Real leaders stick to the truth as they strive to move people towards a goal. Real leaders model the expected behaviors. Real leaders show humanity, caring, and concern because they actually believe it is important and the best way to live. When we believe in human leaders we have to be prepared to be let down because no one is perfect, but if we are getting a parade of lies something else is going on… not leadership.

Birds of a feather flock together

If many of your friends are in jail and under investigation then it would be reasonable for people to suspect you of similar behavior or at least knowing about it. If your friends are saying they are protecting you or your interests; then the suspicion would logically be more intense. As adults and citizens we have a duty to seek the truth and act on it. Ideology should never push us to support lies or liars. Jesus told us that the truth would set us free – we all need to follow his guidance and protect our republic by supporting the pursuit of truth.

Shorter winters and longer summers

As we head into the shortest days of the year in the USA; remember that the cool or cold days you are experiencing will not be around for long. Think about any children in your life, kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc. – the world they will live in will be significantly different (and harsher) if we don’t act decisively. Do anything that you can to decrease your carbon footprint and influence policy (vote) for responsibly tackling the problem of man-made climate change.
