Lately I have noticed that we rarely receive information on the type of weapon used in a mass shooting on the first day. The type of weaponry used (knife, semiautomatic pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, etc) by a mass murder suspect typically does not arrive until later in the news cycle. A tragedy with a complete story typically sparks questions and outrage, but if you delay a more complete version of the story; what happens? Here are some questions to consider: Does the delay in critical details deny people considering important issues? Does not knowing important information keep people from considering potential solutions? Have assault rifles (called AR style platforms in the reporting) become a political issue? Do US citizens need to be armed with weapons of war that would most likely be used against other citizens? Citizens of the USA need to think about all of these questions if they expect more than thoughts and prayers in response to mass murders.
